What is IOQM?

  • The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) is a national-level mathematics competition for students of Classes 8 to 12 meeting age, nationality and other criteria in India.
  • It is jointly conducted by the Mathematics Teachers’ Association (India) (MTAI) and the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE).
  • IOQM serves as the first stage in the process to select India’s team for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO) & European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO)

Aim of IOQM

  • To identify talented young mathematicians across India who demonstrate exceptional problem solving skills.
  • To encourage students to think creatively and deeply beyond the standard school curriculum and develop genuine love for mathematics.
  • To build a strong foundation for India’s representation at the IMO, EGMO & APMO.

Eligibility Criteria

(as per latest available 2025 guidelines; subject to change)

INMO 2026 Awardees may directly appear for INMO 2027 without qualifying through IOQM 2026 and RMO 2026 (subject to age and other criteria)Must be born between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2014Must be eligible to hold an Indian passport (OCI cardholders are provisionally eligible up to IMOTC stage only; not eligible to represent India at IMO, EGMO, or APMO)
