What is IOQM?

  • The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) is a national-level mathematics competition for students of Classes 8 to 12 meeting age, nationality and other criteria in India.
  • It is jointly conducted by the Mathematics Teachers’ Association (India) (MTAI) and the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE).
  • IOQM serves as the first stage in the process to select India’s team for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO) & European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO)

The Purpose & Promise of IOQM

Aim of IOQM

  • To identify talented young mathematicians across India who demonstrate exceptional problem solving skills.
  • To encourage students to think creatively and deeply beyond the standard school curriculum and develop genuine love for mathematics.
  • To build a strong foundation for India’s representation at the IMO, EGMO & APMO.

Advantages for Students

  • Prepares students for higher-level Olympiads like the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) and beyond.
  • Helps develop advanced mathematical thinking, analytical skills and perseverance
  • Provides recognition and opens pathways for scholarships, academic opportunities and international representation.
  • Regional & National Merit certificates awarded to top IOQM performers.
